3 Ways In Which Search is Evolving
Ever imagined how you are able to search the World Wide Web? What enables you to easily gather the information you are exploring? You definitely might have witnessed the advancements in search experience in Yahoo!, Google and Bing; mull over it and try to investigate how this change – to put it in better words, evolved over the years.
Can you recall the first time you used a search engine for searching for your notes or maybe your favorite movie or song? How was your experience? The conventional method of researching, albeit, hasn’t altered much, however, search mechanism has certainly undergone drastic evolution, particularly in the last few years.
The new mechanism is empowering the entire web technology, bringing newer technologies in inception. In fact, many of us not even realize how rapidly we have adopted and gotten used to these new-fangled modes of researching content.
1. What’s in your ‘search box’?
With the new ‘search box’ option made available, even in your email inbox, in Yahoo, Bing and Google, people have the facility to easily filter through the colossal amount of information on the web. I simply fell in love with the added convenience. Now, I can just type in the search box and easily search for anything I want, right through my inbox.
Whether it’s about searching for latest news, checking out videos or images, you can now easily search them up by prioritizing your search. For example, if you want to search up for the latest news updates on wikileaks, you can simply click on the ‘news’ and type in ‘wikileaks’ in the search box and within a few seconds, you’ll have a list of the most hot and happening issues relating to it.
2. What’s ‘Trending Now’ on Yahoo?
Yahoo Search has its own benefits. You even have the ‘Trending Now’ list of twitter listed searches winning the most searches on the web. Want to check up the movie trailers for the upcoming movies in 2011, click on video, type the name and search – as easy as it gets, folks! While, in Bing, you can further narrow down your search by clicking on the sub options revealed when you hover over the main tabs, for instance, ‘Videos’ or ‘Images’ or Shopping.
Google’s signed-in personalization’ and ‘signed-out’ personalization
Google offers a ‘signed-in personalization’, though this has been around for five years now, to be precise. When you sign-in using your account, Google personalizes your search practice based on your web history. The other way offered is the ‘signed-out customization’ – this is the new kind. When you haven’t signed in, Google customizes your search, based entirely on your past search information linked to your browser, via the 180-days of your entire search activity stored within your browser’s cookie.
3. Mobile browsing
But of course, couldn’t keep that one un-mentioned, could I? Google is relentlessly pumping up its mobile search mechanism to simplify your searches made from your mobiles. Simply type in your query on Google search using your mobile, or speak into your Android or iPhone App, you get the results you want.
In fact, tell you an interesting fact, according to a global stats conducted in October 2009, 21% of searches done in Kenya were found to be made using mobile phones, while approximately 6% in Africa, 3.5% in Asia, 1.5% in Europe and nearly 2.8% in US.
Search technology is taking on a more significant turn helping people easily stumble on any piece of information with ease. So much has been done already and so much is still underway – let’s wait to see what Google, Yahoo and Bing might bring in next.
