Everybody talks about SEO, but people who buy SEO services do not know a whole lot about SEO itself. I have compiled a list of facts, which might surprise you if you are new to the SEO game:
1. Most of you cannot do SEO yourself: If people would just understand this fact alone, it would save them a lot of time and agony. SEO includes link building, on-page optimization, blog commenting, forum commenting, directory submissions, press releases etc. You simply cannot attend to all of these yourself. Hire a SEO company or outsource!
2. Most SEO services provide you minimal benefit: This is  a little sad but true. Most SEO services provide directory and article submissions, reciprocal link building and related methods to increase your link popularity. And when they say they are increasing your link popularity, that is all they mean. There is a huge difference between the number of inbound links you have and the benefit they provide you. Do not buy from SEO companies which provide you the usual services. You are getting ripped off!
3. SEO is almost always costly: Because people almost always do it the wrong way. Even if they do it the right way, they still need to spend a lot of money on it. For example, in the beginning, I used to do all the SEO myself. After 4 months of toiling, I realized that I had only been able to build 693 links to my website and most of them were of crappy quality. Then I just stopped. I learned to hire third-parties to do the work for me. Understand that because SEO provides you with free traffic if it succeeds, you might need to put up a considerable investment in the beginning to get the work done.
4. SEO is not the most important factor for your success: Now some might argue this, but I think that it is content which makes or breaks the game. I have seen many websites which stink from a SEO perspective, but because they have quality content, people still go to them. That does not mean that you should just stop taking care of your websites SEO. Far from it!
5. High quality SEO is king: If someone provides you 10,000 links for $49.99, run in the other direction! To succeed, you need high quality links from high quality websites. Do not settle for numerous low quality links. They take longer to benefit you, cost more (when matched against their disadvantages) and might get you penalized!
